St. Michael’s Veterans Center is a 24 acre site located at East 39th Street and Emanuel Cleaver II Blvd., in Kansas City, Missouri. This unique campus is being developed specifically to address the needs of at-risk military veterans by creating an environment with safe, quality housing and customized support services, including case management and counseling.
St. Michael’s Veterans Center is being developed in multiple phases, and is expected to ultimately include more than 150 apartment homes for veterans of the United States Military Services, targeting those with critical housing needs, including those who are homeless or soon to be homeless. Construction of the first 58 – 1 bedroom apartments is taking place in 2013, with occupancy to begin in the Spring of 2014.
The site will also include an integrated welcome center and supportive services building, that will contain an array of services, programs and activities customized to best improve the quality of life for Kansas City’s veterans.
The goal is to empower veterans toward healthy reintegration within their family and community. Value added services will be provided in a coordinated effort to promote positive transitions into the community. Services are expected to be available for such needs as
- Mental health counseling
- Useful and respectful anger management strategies
- Peer to peer mentoring
- Identification of personal assets and strengths to enhance self-worth
- Employment readiness and job skills training
- Legal support
- Referrals for education or GED instruction
- Assistance in obtaining local, state and/or federal benefits
